Livelihood Improvement for Growth and Transformation of the Female” (LIGHT-F)
The project “Livelihood Improvement for Growth and Transformation of the Female” (LIGHT-F) is
joint venture of JICA, Women Development Department (Govt. of Sindh) and working with
two partners in Sindh, Women Development Foundation Pakistan (Karachi) and Sindh Rural
Support Organization (Sukkur).
Project duration is from 2017 to 2021.
Project for Improvement of Livelihood and Well-being of Women Home-Based Workers in the
Informal Sector in Sindh Province plans to carry out sensitization activities in Karachi for
making two target groups aware of the importance of “women employment”, i.e.; women
working with organizations as an employee and Home-Based Workers.
This is also including
the men members of the target areas, i.e.; Maripur and Baldia Town. This project is being a
support to deliver the information regarding formal employment and encourage the women
working in different companies. Several success stories from different fields were also
showed to the community members to show the positive side of women employment.
Community Gathering
In year 2019, project was more focused on the awareness activities. Project team started to
interact with the community by taking an initiative
through “Community Gathering” program. This
event was held in the month of June 2019 in two
areas in which 90 residents of the areas participated,
i.e.; Maripur 49 and Baldia 41.
Furthermore, “Small Sessions” for awareness of
project activities were conducted by Youth leaders.
These youth leaders were selected from the
community and they were trained to conduct sessions 19 youth leaders performed this activity and achieve the
target of serving total 378 community members. After the
completion of the small session activity, youth leaders were
awarded by the certificate.
Parallel to project awareness activities, project team was
also to get the registration for the trainings. By active
mobilization and hard work of area coordinators, 140 forms
were received from the community. This is also considered
as the success of effective awareness sessions. However, due
to limited seats, 56 FHBW got finalized for the trainings and
these participants will be trained with Entrepreneurship skills
in following year.
