International Women’s Day (IWD) 2019
International Women’s Day celebrated internationally on 8 March to remind the roles and powers of women in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles and to emphasize the importance of women’s empowerment. IWD is a celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. On Friday, 8th March 2019, WDFP organized and celebrated International Women’s Day at Maripur Center, for the awareness of Role of Women to reduce Violence Extremism. Mrs. Sabiha Shah-CEO welcomed the participants and delivered speech regarding the historical background and importance of women’s day which commemorates movement of working women’s right. The right to education, right to adequate health, right to marry and right to earn as equal as man and said that how we can perform our role regarding bringing peace in the community. She gave the examples of globally women who inspired the society by preaching the message of respecting other person’s culture, religious differences and language. Video of Advocate Samar Minallah “Bibi Shireenaey” song was also shown in the session for the great role of women.
After that, the guest speaker Zeenat Lakahni shared her views regarding the subject and spread word of awareness with a beautiful poem written by her. Then inspirational stories were shared by the empowered women of the community, who shared their life stories that how they became a role model for their families and society. After story sharing session, Guest speaker Syeda Saeeda Bano encouraged the participants with her speech that was about as to how a woman can be a changing agent for preventing violence extremism in society and highlighted the resilience of women and the need for better policies and environment for women to grow and flourish not only in Pakistan but internationally
