TDEA-CIP

On “Promoting the Human Rights and Electoral Participation of People with Disabilities (PWD), Transgender people and Women in Pakistan” TDEA implemented a 20-month project in collaboration with United States Department of State Bureau of Democracy.

This project took the responsibility to address the concern and rights of PWDs and transgender people which have not previously been focus of election observation in Pakistan, and women’s rights in elections remain imperfectly realized. To achieve their human rights through greater participation in electoral processes, 15 CSO’s dedicated to the rights of these populations have formed Coalition for Inclusive Pakistan (CIP).

TDEA-CIP selected 15 organizations throughout Pakistan from provinces which were divided into three marginalized clusters: Women, Trans-genders and Special Persons (PWD). To facilitate women, WDFP is selected from Sindh and decided to perform different activities in Karachi between November 27, 2017 and March 14, 2019

The majority of women of our society do not participate in the process of elections. Women are left behind in the era because they have to face some social challenges in our society. Women are the major part of our society and we respect them a lot but not gave them opportunity to take part in elections for the betterment of society. Despite of facing all these issues, if women get success and show their determination, we will be able to give them on board and facilitate with a quality of life. Now the overall scenario is being changed and society realized that men and women are the same pillars to serve the development of nation and country. There are number of organizations working and supporting women to highlight these issues.

During the month of June WDFP did meeting with 5 representatives of different political parties (Mr. Ramazan Memon and Mrs. Shaheena Ramazan (National Party); Ms. Kishwer Zehra (MQM); Mr. Niaz Khan (ANP); Advocate Mumtaz (Jamat e Islami) and Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Kaim Khan (Dy. General Secretary Karachi Division) PPP), meetings with 3 Returning Officers and observation of collecting and submitting of nominations papers in City Court. In the month of July attended 8 corner meetings and 8 Jalsas of different political parties 25th July 2018, WDFP team and 25 EDO’s observed on-going activities of different polling stations in Karachi.
